Buganda Land Board gave handed over 300 land titles to clients at a ceremony which took place in Bulange Gardens on Friday 1st February-2019. The ceremony, presided over by the 1st deputy Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom Owek.Emmanuel Ssendawula was a continuation of a now established tradition of Buganda Land Board giving away processed land titles to Ekyapa mu Ngalo clients whenever they are ready.

At the ceremony, Buganda Land Board Managing Director, Omuk.Kyewalabye-Male noted that Buganda Land Board is making strides in as far as asserting its authority on the 2013 returned land estate, citing the numerous processed land titles on that land by Buganda Land Board, some of which were among those given away at the ceremony. At first, Buganda Land Board was facing a challenge of District Land Boards which still issued land titles on the returned estate feigning ignorance of the boundaries of the said land. That, he said  has prompted Buganda Land Board to commission a boundary opening exercise like one which was conducted recently in Masaka to remove that confusion.

He also thanked different government bodies like KCCA, Wakiso district which have worked cordially with Buganda Land Board in processing land titles for clients. For KCCA, he praised Mrs. Jennifer Ssemakula Musisi, the erstwhile Executive Director of KCCA for the good working relationship she established with Buganda Land Board, and hopes that the new Executive Director, Mr. Kitaka continues working smoothly with BLB.

In his remarks, Owek.Martin Kasekende, Buganda Kingdom miniter of Lands and Agriculture, also the chairman of the Board of Buganda Land Board congratulated those whose land titles had been successfully processed. He took those who attended the ceremony through the advantages of getting a land title. Advantages like securing ones tenancy, being in position to access meaningful credit, being able to sublease, getting meaningful compensation in case of government projects, increasing the value of ones land. He therefore, encouraged more people on Buganda Kingdom  land to acquire land titles in order to reap the fruits of having a land title.

On his part, the guest of honour, Buganda kingdom’s 1st deputy Katikkiro Owek.Gerald Ssendawula thanked Buganda Land Board for starting a campaign which has enabled people on Buganda Kingdom land to get for themselves valuable land titles which they can use to protect their land and improve their livelihoods. He then turned to the Central government which he asked to stop land problems by focusing on ensuring that the police and the judiciary expedite investigating and trying land cases, fight corruption in lands offices, work on finding a solution to the population pressure on the land, encourage people to title their land.

The hugely attended ceremony was also attended by Buganda Land Board Lease Access Financing Initiative partners like Stanbic bank, Centenary bank, Trust bank, Opportunity bank.  Other BLB partners who attended included Action Aid, UCCA, NETPIL and Ministry of Lands.
